Mindfulness en Psico-Oncologia

094Mindfulness en Psico-Oncologia es un programa de entrenamiento terapeutico de cuatro semanas de duracion, desarrollado por Manolete S. Moscoso, a traves de su labor clinica y de investigacion en el Morton Plant Hospital Cancer Center y en St’ Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa, Florida, USA.

Dicho modelo psicoterapeutico se inicio en 1998, financiado por el Morton Plant Hospital Foundation y los auspicios economicos del Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Este apoyo financiero permitio, asi mismo, el inicio del programa clinico en el St. Joseph’s Hospital Cancer Institute en la ciudad de Tampa, Florida durante el 2004 y 2005.

brain_3dCientificamente, nuestros estudios de investigacion biomedica y psicologica en la Universidad de South Florida (USF)  tienen como proposito examinar el nivel de efectividad del modelo clinico de Mindfulness en pacientes con diagnostico de cancer, en funcion a: (1) La reduccion de la ansiedad, depresion, fatiga e insomnio, y (2) los efectos negativos del estres cronico sobre el cerebro y el sistema inmune, particularmente sobre las hormonas corticoesteroides (cortisol), citoquinas pro-inflamatorias (IL-6), los telomeros y la telomerasa.

Mindfulness en Psico-Oncologia, propone un modelo de REAPPRAISAL basada en evidencia cientifica dentro del contexto del distres emocional percibido por los pacientes debido al diagnostico de cancer y los efectos toxicos de los tratamientos de quimioterapia y radiacion.

El proposito central de la Intervencion de Mindfulness es la reinterpretacion del distres emocional causado por el temor a la muerte, la ansiedad y depresion. Otra de las metas es estimular el incremento de una percepcion positiva con la intencion de optimizar la calidad de vida de los pacientes.

Estrictamente hablando, es un acto de observacion y lograr conciencia de la realidad presente, tal como se presenta, y en la cual se adopta una postura de aceptacion plena de dicha realidad.
